Homework Policy:
1. Homework will be assigned on a nightly basis (unless teacher decides there is no homework. It may also be necessary to assign homework or a project over a vacation, depending on what students are preparing for. Homework is not to be seen as simply busy work, but given as a reinforcement of the day’s lessons and skills taught. The homework assignment can be skill builders, critical thinking or project based. Homework will also be classwork that we were unable to |complete during class. It is important for students to complete the assignments so they can master the lesson and skills taught.
2. The teacher will check homework on a daily basis. I will place a check mark on the assignment and require the class to present their homework in a “Homework Share.” The “Homework Share” presentation time is a critical analysis of the homework, which allows the teacher and students to learn new ways of solving problems. This also serves to help increase critical thinking skills and gives students an opportunity to engage in individual practice during class time. Students are expected to work in groups on a particular set of problems assigned by the teacher, then present those problems to the entire class. While presenting, students must be able to explain the problems in detail and show how they answered a question. Students are allowed to ask questions and challenge each other during the Homework Share.
3..Homework is to be handed in on the day it is due completely finished. If for any reason a homework assignment can not be completed, please send a note with your child the next day. A note does not excuse the homework but serves to inform the teacher of what happened. The student must complete the missed assignment . If a student is absent they should find out what they missed by checking the homework wiki, call a classmate or ask the teacher. It is the students’ responsibility to seek out the homework missed and make up the assignment. Students will have until Friday of the same week they missed the assignment to make it up and hand it in. Late homework will receive ½ credit only. Also, each homework assignment not handed in is a “F” that is included in your homework average.
4. Please Note: The teacher must be notified if a student has a family emergency, are going away on vacation early or know in advance they will be absent. In these cases homework can be assigned in advance.
5. Disclaimer: 1.All assignments are subject to change at the teachers discretion. 2. Assignments will be posted on the site 1-2 days after the assignment has been given 3. Students are still required to copy their homework in their planners on a daily basis. 4. This site is a back-up for students to get their homework, and does not take the place of copying their homework from the board daily. 5. Parents are expected to check their child's homework planner daily.

2. Why is topsoil important for growing plants? (Topsoil has humus which provides nutrients for the plants to grow.)
3. Describe the layers of soil? (Topsoil with small pieces of rock and humus, water holding sub-soil with more clay, the bottom layer has bigger pieces of rock and bedrock.)
4, What are the two most important properties of soil? (How much water it can retain and how much air can move through it.)
5. How do rock size and shape affect the quality of the soil? (Size and shape of rocks affect the pore space, which is the amount o room there is for air and water. Rounded rocks and larger rocks create more space. There must be a balance between the drainage of water and the soils ability to retain water in order for plants to grow best.)

Parts of an Algebraic Expression
Algebraic expressions are combinations of variables, numbers, and at least one arithmetic operation. For example, 2x + 4y − 9 is an algebraic expression.
1. Term: Each expression is made up of terms. A term can be a signed number, a variable, or a constant multiplied by a variable or variables. 2. Factor: Something which is multiplied by something else. A factor can be a number, variable, term, or a longer expression. For example, the expression 7x(y + 3) has three factors: 7, x, and (y + 3). 3. Coefficient: The numerical factor of a multiplication expression that contains a variable. Consider the expression in the figure above, 2x + 4y - 9. In the first term, 2x, the coefficient is 2: in the second term, 4y, the coefficient is 4. 4. Constant: A number that cannot change its value. In the expression 2x + 4y - 9, the term 9 is a constant. 5. Like Terms: Terms that contain the same variables such as 2m, 6m or 3xy and 7xy. If an expression has more than one constant terms, those are also like terms. 6.Algebraic Expression: an expression that contains one or more variables and may also contain operations symbols such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 7. Variable: a letter or symbol used to represent an unknown or unspecified number. The value of a variable may change. Half Day for Students (11.40am dismissal) Parent Teacher Conferences 1-3pm

1. What is soil made of?
(Soil is made of small pieces of rock, bits of plant material or humus.)

Andrea's Math Notes 3/27/15-3/30/15
Parts of an Algebraic Expression
Algebraic expressions are combinations of variables, numbers, and at least one arithmetic operation. For example, 2x + 4y − 9 is an algebraic expression.
6. Algebraic Expression: an expression that contains one or more variables and may also contain operations symbols such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
7. Variable: a letter or symbol used to represent an unknown or unspecified number. The value of a variable may change.
